Mongolia presented three pledges to the United Nations in the field of human rights protection
2023-12-12 Print 840On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the "Human Rights-75" high-level event is being held in Geneva on December 11–12, 2023.
Mr. Khunan Jargalsaikhan, the commissioner of NHRCM, participated in the event, which was attended by heads of state, heads of government, national human rights institutions, and other high-level guests from more than 130 countries.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights organized the "Human Rights-75" event, which had as its main focus reviewing past accomplishments and errors before ensuring that everyone has access to freedom, equality, and justice as stated in the Declaration. Recalling the commitment to provide equal access and increasing further efforts to guarantee universal human rights in the next 25 years are the reasons why, in this situation, all partner parties are trying to collaboratively define their pledge.
Mongolia is taking step-by-step measures to ensure and protect human rights, in this context, we have undertaken to improve the implementation of human rights in the following three areas. In this,
PLEDGE NUMBER 1: The Government of Mongolia pledges to start an initiative called “SHE for HE” to ensure gender equality targeting men and boys. In the framework of this initiative, the Government will analyze the existing policies and activities aimed at both men and boys and further initiate policies and implement measures to solve the pressing issues. Expected deadline within which pledge will be realized: Dec 31, 2025
PLEDGE NUMBER 2: The Government of Mongolia pledges to establish the UN Research Center for Asia and the Pacific Region in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in consultation and agreement with the OHCHR. The establishment of the regional Human Rights training and research center will have long-term positive results by educating both rights holders and duty bearers hub for the human rights community, NHRIs, civil society, and academics at the regional level. PLEDGE NUMBER 3: the Government of Mongolia pledges to renew and adopt the National Human Rights Action Programme (Phase II, 2024-2034). Expected deadline within which pledge will be realized: Dec 31, 2034
